Remember the Four Way Test Here!

Rotary Attendance

Regular attendance at the Clubs weekly meetings is fundamental to membership of Rotary. 100 Percent attendance should be the goal of every Rotarian. Regular attendance is essential to a strong and active Rotary club. The emphasis on attendance is traced back to 1922 when Rotary International announced a worldwide attendance contest which motivated thousands of Rotarians to achieve a 100 percent attendance year after year. Many Rotarians take great pride in maintaining their 100 percent record in their own club or by making-up at other Rotary club meetings.
Regular attendance develops into close friendships and forms the backbone to the service Rotary gives to both local and international communities. In recent years a more flexible application of the attendance rules has been accepted by Clubs taking into account the changes in society and a more demanding economic environment. There are many ways in which members can demonstrate their loyalty and develop the acquaintances needed to underpin their activities.

Rules of Attendance

The attendance rules are based on The Standard Club Constitution, Attendance Rules of Rotary International, The General Council of RIBI. Each member must attend or make up at least 50% of club regular meetings in each half of the Rotary year. Each member must attend at least 60% of the regular meeting time of the Club. Canít come and sign in, then leave. Regular Rotary club meeting usually lasts 60 minutes. A member should stay for 60% of the meeting to get the attendance credit. Most clubs allow their members leave the meeting shortly before the guest speaker speaks and get the attendance credit.

Leave of Absence

Leave of Absence may be granted for a specified period of time it is not recommended that it should be given for an extended period. In a written application to the clubís council, the member should give good and sufficient reasons why the leave should be granted. Other than in exceptional circumstances the member should give advance notice to the club council of an inability to meet the attendance requirements. The member will nevertheless be shown as absent in the attendance record unless a makeup is made. Members on leave of absence should be encouraged to visit their own or other clubs whenever possible.
If a member fails to attend or make up four consecutive club meetings, the board may inform the member that the memberís non-attendance may be considered a request to terminate membership of the club. Thereafter, the board, by a majority vote, may terminate the memberís membership.
